FILLINGS/ CROWN PREP/ CROWN DELIVERY
- EATING: Wait till anesthesia wears off. Be cautious on accidently chewing on your tongue, lips, cheeks from “numbness”
- HIGH/TALL BITE, OFF-BALANCED BITE: Please give us a call for a quick adjustment.
- MILD SENSITIVITY TO HOT AND COLD: is normal for few weeks after the dental filling.
- SEVERE SENSITIVITY TO HOT/COLD/THROBBING PAIN: Deeper cavity can lead to severe/throbbing pain inside the tooth. Please give us a call for a further evaluation.
- GUM TISSUE SORE SPOTS/ IRRITATION: can happen from procedure and from injection site for few days. OTC products to relieve pain can help such as Ora-jel, mouth sore relief products.
- PAIN MEDS: OTC Tylenol or Ibuprofen can help with the pain.
- JAW PAIN after the dental appointment is normal for few days from stretching. Apply cool with ice packs first over both the muscles and joints for 5 minutes and then follow with heat for 15 minutes. This can be repeated several times a day.
- ANTIBIOTICS: If doctor prescribed antibiotics, please take with food as directed.
TEMPORARY CROWN
- AVOID sticky food/ gum while having a temporary crown.
- TEMPORARY CROWN LOOSENED, CAME OFF: Please give us a call to get recemented. If it happens over the weekend, local pharmacy/Walgreens/Rite-aid/Ralphs has OTC temporary cement.
- Practice placing temporary crown on the tooth with the right orientation
- Clean out the tooth and inside the temporary crown, dry.
- Place temporary material inside the crown and place on the tooth, bite on a rolled tissue paper for 5-10 min until material sets.
- Also using toothpaste as a temporary cement may work as a temporary solution.
ADDITIONAL HOME CARE - AFTER YOUR PERMANENT CROWN
- FIRST DAY: Wait until the numbness wears off before eating. Avoid very sticky or hard food on the new crown for the first 24 hours.
- SENSITIVITY: Some sensitivity to hot and cold for a few days to a few weeks is normal and should slowly get better.
- BITE: Your bite should feel normal in a day. If the crown feels high or you feel pressure when you bite, call the office at 661-857-7662 for a quick adjustment.
- CLEANING: Brush and floss your crown like your other teeth. With a bridge, use a floss threader or small brush under the false tooth every day.
- PROTECT IT: Do not chew ice, pens, or very hard foods. If you grind your teeth, ask about a night guard.
